Safe and Uplifting Space
Provide a safe space for people of all genders, ethnicities, and sexualities to create. We build the environment around the actors and their specific strengths rather than the actors building the director's vision.
Student Led
Run by students and student feedback to mold the perfect experience around them.
Pre-Professional
Prepare students who are aspiring professionals for high-quality productions.
Kat Hansen is a high school graduate and theatre artist based in San Diego. She has been the resident director and producer at DTP since she founded the company in August 2020 (when she was just 14) and has also been on the creative team of many outside projects. As a performer, she has been recognized as a top 10 actress in San Diego by the Broadway San Diego Awards.
At DTP, her mission is to build the productions around the artists rather than the director. She believes that the magic of theatre comes from showcasing every individual’s strengths to create the most authentic version of the piece to us.
Kat has been trained in acting and technical theatre at La Jolla Playhouse and UCLA in addition to years of training in voice, acting, and dance. Acting credits include; Fiona (Shrek the Musical), Baker’s Wife (Into The Woods), Olive Ostrovsky (25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), Ellie Blake (Freaky Friday), Mrs. Baker/Ensemble (Award-Winning Tanner Maverick’s Book of Sound), and Lucy (13).
Kat has recently been accepted into 8 universities with incredible theatre programs such as University of Arizona, Chapman University, Loyola Marymount University, and was waitlisted at one of the nation’s most recognized drama schools, NYU Tisch, for her work as a director.
In the fall, Kat will continue to study her passion for directing and theatre arts at Loyola Marymount University.
When she was just 14 years old, DTP was founded by Kat Hansen in August of 2020 to safely produce theatre amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout the first socially-distanced productions, DTP began to evolve into more than just keeping theatre alive. Kat found that she wanted to create an environment much like the many life-changing experiences she’s had with theatre. She discovered her passion for teaching and helping others achieve their performance goals. Now, DTP aims to create a safe and inclusive environment for theatre students to thrive.
